BEYOND THE WAVES draws the portrait of TARO YAMAMOTO : an atypical young Japanese senator who used to be a popular actor. Through his story we also discover the image of contemporary Japan. A country marching towards nationalism, xenophobia and rearmament. A subjective Japan seen through the eyes of a rebel who goes against the flow. We accompany TARO through his struggles and doubts. What we discover is a reflection of our own reality. Japan is finally not so far away from us. And Taro Yamamoto feels closer than we could have imagined.
